New in the OC!
Hey! I just moved out here about a week and a half ago. I lived in Michigan until two months or so ago so I'm not even from the west originally. I lived in Utah just before I moved here. I was going to go to school there but things didn't work out. My boyfriend of 4 years moved out to Utah first. Thats why I came out, then he had some problems with school and was working in Cali on his breaks. He has a good job here and decided to go to school here. I didn't like the school I was going to in Utah enough to hold me there... since I moved out west to be with him. Anyways... long story short... I'm completely new around here and just drifting. I need to start establishing myself in the community. I'm looking for a job currently and have been wanting to see some sites. I'm looking to get back into school... I'm thinking about Cal State Fullerton. I'm 21 and I'm in Buena Park. I'm also interested in some volunteer programs if I don't get right in school. (Preferably, Environmental) So if anyone has cool ideas to make me feel more at home... they are welcome!!

First off, welcome!

I'm a lifelong resident of Orange County (save 4 years at school in Santa Cruz), and even I sometimes feel disconnected here - There's a LOT of Orange County to go around. You're off in one corner, and lots of LA is closer to you than OC is...but don't let that stop you.

CSF is a great school - lots of my friends and coworkers went there. Your other Cal State choice within a relatively short distance is CS Dominguez Hills, which I honestly know less about. You've also got Chapman college in Orange, and UC Irvine. All good schools.

As for something to do, I'd suggest heading to a small coffee shop or juice bar and picking up a copy of the OC Weekly and Squeeze OC - both papers will have lots of ideas for things to do, work, and volenteer opertunities. Like I said, there's more to do here than you'll have time for, but finding the things can be tough. Good luck, and welcome!

Thank you for the welcome and all the advice and information!! We have a Starbucks nearby so maybe I will see if they have those papers. Thats neat!

I live a couple blocks from Knott's Berry Farm... so I will probably check that out soon and I'm going to the Pacific Aquarium tomarrow... Thats far away but I'm going with a friend of a friend of my boyfriend's. Crazy eh? haha
